The Park
Slope Center
for Mental Health (PSCMH) was
formed in 1983 as Elder/Family Services to provide mental health and care
management services to older people, their families and caregivers. In 1989, Elder/Family Services was
licensed by the NYS Office of Mental Health to provide out-patient clinic
treatment services to adults, with a specialty in geriatrics. From 1989 to 1996, the agency
expanded considerably and broadened its focus to include non-elderly adults,
caregivers, and families, while maintaining its geriatric specialty. Because of this broadened patient
population, the agency name was changed to the Park
Slope Center
for Mental Health in 1996.
In January 2006, Park
Slope Center
for Mental Health amended its operating certificate to provide services to
adults, children and families in the Borough of Brooklyn. Treatment services are provided at 348
13th Street and through home visits to
all neighborhoods in Brooklyn.
PSCMH uses various
treatment modalities and integrates current theoretical approaches. Experienced clinicians serve as staff
members, consultants, members of the advisory board, and members of the Board
of Directors. PSCMH staff works
with all of its clients toward the integration and resolution of
developmental tasks and goals.
This perspective can be, and is, used for treatment planning for
individuals at all functional levels:
from seriously cognitively-impaired individuals whose goals and tasks
may have to be simplified, to higher functioning individuals who may have
greater than imagined opportunities for growth and creativity.
